The sun finally shines on the Tuncurry/Forster Jockey Club.
The 2013 Gold Cup meeting was washed out, and 2014 looked to be heading in the same direction after five inches of rain fell on the Friday night prior the March 1st race meeting. Racing NSW postponed the Gold Cup until the 22nd March where sun block-out was the order of a most successful race day.
A six race program with close and exciting finishes. The Future XXXX Happy Garden Chinese Restaurant Gold Cup was won by the smallest of margins, premier jockey Peter Graham executed a well-timed run grabbing victory in the shadow of the post. Well prepared “Xerxes Dream” ran the 2100m journey of the Gold Cup trained by Michael O’Neil of Wauchope.
The Tuncurry Mile is undoubtedly a great race spectacle, jumping from the 1600m start with a 600m run to the first turn, jockeys have plenty of time to posse up for the run home. Jockey Robert Agnew successfully guided “Revolutionize” to win the Tuncurry Mile making it a double for Gosford trainer Fred Cowell.
Fashions on the Field, music and champagne flowing – another brilliant day’s racing at the Tuncurry track came to a close with promises of all returning next year for the Tuncurry XXXX Gold Cup.
Good Punting, see you down the track,
